Any idea what this is?
Well, obviously it's Brussel Sprouts... Right?
I had no idea that Brussel Sprout's grow on stalks. None. Not the foggiest.
Apparently neither did the cashier, she said "Ok, I give up. What the hell is this"? Hilarious. I had a crowd of people gawking at my alien spawn vegetables.
Would you have known? Have you ever bought produce that has stumped the cashier?

I had no idea either!
Just think Jolly Green Giant, ho ho ho!
Whenever I buy tomatilloes the cashier is always confused.
That should be spelled tomatillos..oops I guess I get confused too :)
That's hilarious that the checker wasn't sure what it was. Funny. I've never had brussel sprouts. I actually planted one this year, but it frosted too early and it didn't produce. Although, I'm not even sure I'd have known if it did.
What will you make?
LOL.... I did not know that either! As far as I'm concerned, they come in a bag in the freezer section. :-D
Hi! Just came over from your comment on Art of Doing Stuff. If you'd asked me how brussel sprouts grow, I'm not sure I could have answered "On a stalk, of course!", but I've definitely seen them like that before! Probably a farmers market or something... I frequently stump cashiers with fruits and vegetables- I think it's because so many are still in high school! But a common thing that seems to be unrecognizable is artichokes, and it makes me SOO sad, because they're delicious, and they were such a treat when we were kids. Like twice a year Mom would come home with one artichoke for everybody... it was hard to tell if we were more excited on artichoke day, or chocolate eclair day!
: ) Meg
I see those all the time at the grocery store and always stop and stare. I would love to buy some but I wouldn't even know how to start with them! Do you have a good brussel sprouts recipe??
That's hilarious! No I've never seen Brussel Sprouts growing before. That's so funny. I guess I learned something new today.
As for do I ever buy any veggies that stump the cashier, well most all veggies seem to stump them. I've even had some ask what an avocado was. Such a shame.
Parsnips get them every time.
